Kheer Ganga is a small village in Parvati valley of Himachal Pradesh, India and lies at an altitude of about 9711 feet above sea level. It is about 12kms away from Barsheni and about 22kms away from Manikaran. This place is accessible only by foot and is open for 7 months in a year, from March till October, rest of the time it remains covered under thick blanket of snow. It is a beautiful trek on a narrow cliff side path going by numerous waterfalls and few isolated villages. The trail ascends through thick pine forests to the spiritual site of Khir Ganga. There is usually about 30-50 people at the village site during the high season. According to Hindu mythology this is the place where ‘Kartik Ji’, the elder son of ‘Lord Shiva’ remained in ‘samadhi’ for thousands of years.
Khirganga is one of the most refreshing trek that u will come across. This trek leads through hilly terrain of Parvati Valley, Himachal Pradesh. The natural hot-water-spring experience is something that you’ll remember for lifetime. After reaching Kasol you can get a ride till Barsheni and then you can start trekking to Khirganga. This is a moderate trek and is ideal for beginners.
Parvati valley is highly notorious for its cultivation of cannabis. Tourists, mostly foreigners, openly buy and consume hashish (hash/charas) even though it is illegal, giving it a name the hash capital of India.
