Nestled away in the magnificent Nilgiris is the quiet little hill station of Coonoor. Located close to Ooty, this picturesque hill station has lush, velvety tea estates and is famous for producing delicious Nilgiri tea. Its attractiveness could be understood by the fact that it is connected with all the major places of Tamil Nadu and thus easy to reach. Since the day of the 19th century when this place was discovered by the British only a small distance away from Ooty- their summer retreat.
There are lots of amazing attractions in and around Coonoor. Spread over an area of 12 hectares, Sim's Park has a collection of over 1,000 plant species. The botanical garden is partly developed in the Japanese style. Lamb's Rock, about 5½ km from Coonoor, is a vantage point. Droog Fort is located a distance of 13 km from Coonoor and was once used by Tipu Sultan in the 18th century. Law's Falls is a waterfall located 5 km from Coonoor, on the way to Mettupalayam. Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint is 10 km from Coonoor and provides a panoramic view of the vast expanse of the Nilgiri Hills and Catherine Falls.
Perhaps the best experience of Coonoor is Toy Train (Nilgiri Mountain Railway) ride to Ooty.
