It is located between Parappar and Gundar Valleys and was established as a refuge from the tropical diseases and hot weather conditions of the plains in 1840s.
The place is blessed with scenic natural beauty and rich flora, cypress, eucalyptus, acacia trees, numerous fruit trees mainly Pear along with flowering ones such as rhododendron, magnolia and eucalyptus. It is a botanical heaven. Kodaikanal is also famous for its eucalyptus oil, homemade chocolates and kurinji – flowers (which blossoms only once in twelve years).
