Day 1 - Bangalore

Your journey begins with a warm and traditional welcome at Yesvantpur Railway Station around 8:30 a.m., where you’ll be greeted with a royal reception, complete with garlands, music, and a red-carpet experience befitting the luxury of your adventure ahead. Once onboard the train, you'll proceed to your designated cabin, where comfort and elegance await. Shortly after settling in, the registration formalities and a detailed briefing session will take place, giving you an overview of the train facilities, safety protocols, and the itinerary for the days ahead.

As the train begins its journey, take some time to unwind and explore the beautifully designed interiors of the train. A sumptuous lunch will be served onboard, offering a taste of regional and international cuisines, freshly prepared by the expert culinary team.

By early afternoon, the train arrives at Mysore, where you'll disembark to explore one of South India’s most iconic landmarks — the Mysore Palace. At approximately 3:00 p.m., you'll begin a guided tour of this architectural marvel, known for its Indo-Saracenic design, intricate interiors, and rich royal heritage. The palace, once home to the Wodeyar dynasty, offers a deep dive into the grandeur of a bygone era.

After the excursion, return to the train where your evening is free to relax or socialise with fellow travellers in the lounge. A lavish dinner will be served onboard, featuring gourmet dishes prepared with attention to detail and authenticity.

Following dinner, the train resumes its journey, travelling overnight toward Hampi, the next destination on your itinerary. Drift to sleep in the comfort of your luxurious cabin, anticipating the ancient wonders that await in the historic ruins of Hampi.

Day 2 - Kanchipuram

Wake up to a beautiful morning as the train glides through the scenic southern landscape, arriving at Chengalpattu Railway Station. A delicious breakfast is served onboard, featuring a variety of regional and continental options to start your day on a delightful note.

This morning offers an optional excursion to Kanchipuram, one of the seven sacred cities of India, renowned for its stunning temples and vibrant silk weaving tradition. Often called the "City of Thousand Temples," Kanchipuram offers a serene and spiritual atmosphere, where you can explore ancient Dravidian architecture, marvel at intricately carved gopurams, and, if desired, witness the artistry behind the famous Kanchipuram silk sarees.

Following the morning excursion, you'll return to the train where a freshly prepared lunch is served onboard, allowing you to relax and recharge as the journey continues.

In the afternoon, the journey takes you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram, a coastal town known for its remarkable rock-cut temples and monuments dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries. Here, you’ll explore architectural wonders such as the Shore Temple, Arjuna’s Penance, and the Five Rathas — all set against the dramatic backdrop of the Bay of Bengal. The guide will offer insights into the Pallava dynasty’s rich cultural legacy as you walk through this open-air museum of stone carvings.

As evening approaches, enjoy a specially curated dinner at a luxurious beachfront hotel, where the sound of waves and coastal breeze enhance the fine dining experience. It’s the perfect setting to reflect on the day’s explorations.

After dinner, you’ll return to the train, where your cabin awaits with all the comforts of home. The train then begins its overnight journey toward Thanjavur, setting the stage for the next chapter in your cultural voyage through South India.

Day 3 - Thanjavur

Begin your day with a relaxing breakfast onboard, freshly prepared and served as the train gently rolls through the serene landscapes of Tamil Nadu. At around 9:00 a.m., you will deboard the train, ready to explore a region known for its rich cultural heritage and architectural charm.

As you step off, the train continues its journey toward Chettinad, a land synonymous with grandeur, tradition, and distinct South Indian flavour. While the train travels ahead, you’ll enjoy lunch onboard, featuring regional delicacies, including some classic Chettinad flavours known for their bold use of spices and aromatic ingredients.

In the afternoon, prepare for an insightful excursion through Chettinad, beginning with a visit to an Athangudi tile factory, where you’ll witness the fascinating process of crafting handmade tiles that are vibrant, artistic, and unique to this region. Each tile is created using traditional techniques passed down through generations, offering a glimpse into the area’s artisanal craftsmanship.

Next, explore the majestic Chettinad mansions — sprawling ancestral homes that showcase a blend of Tamil, European, and Burmese architecture. These palatial residences, once the homes of wealthy Chettiar traders, are known for their intricate woodwork, marble floors, and expansive courtyards, reflecting the opulence of a bygone era.

After a day of cultural immersion, enjoy a leisurely dinner in Chettinad, where you’ll savor the authentic cuisine of the region in a beautifully restored heritage setting. Rich in flavour and history, the meal completes your Chettinad experience on a high note.

Following dinner, you’ll reboard the train, settling into your cabin for the night. The train resumes its journey and heads toward the enchanting coastal city of Cochin (Kochi), where new experiences and stories await the next day.

Day 4 - Kochi

Wake up to the gentle rhythm of the moving train and enjoy a delicious breakfast onboard, served with warm hospitality and a stunning view of Kerala’s lush, tropical scenery. As the train arrives in the vibrant city of Cochin (Kochi), you’ll prepare for a day immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of this historic port town.

Your first stop is the Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, located in the heart of Fort Kochi. This 16th-century structure is a testament to Kerala’s layered colonial history, featuring a blend of Portuguese and traditional Kerala-style architecture. Inside, you’ll discover beautifully preserved murals depicting scenes from the Ramayana and other epics, along with royal portraits and exhibits that offer insight into the lives of the former Kochi rulers.

Following the palace visit, you'll be treated to a unique and intimate performance of Kerala’s classical dance forms, such as Kathakali or Mohiniyattam, staged at an exclusive venue. Watch as performers, adorned in vibrant costumes and elaborate makeup, bring ancient stories to life through expressive gestures, music, and rhythmic movements — a truly mesmerising experience that captures the soul of Kerala’s artistic heritage.

After this cultural immersion, you’ll return to the train for lunch, where a delectable spread of local and international cuisine awaits, served in the elegant dining car.

Later in the evening, guests have the option to explore more of Fort Kochi with a visit to two of its most iconic landmarks: the Chinese Fishing Nets, unique shore-operated lift nets introduced by Chinese explorers centuries ago, and the St. Francis Church, one of the oldest European churches in India, known as the original burial site of Vasco da Gama.

Once back onboard, enjoy a leisurely dinner, reflecting on the day’s diverse experiences — from royal palaces and sacred dances to the sea breeze of Kochi’s historic coastline.

As night falls, the train sets off once again, continuing its overnight journey toward Kumarakom, where the tranquil backwaters of Kerala promise a day of natural beauty and relaxation.

Day 5 - Mararikulam

Begin your day with a peaceful morning aboard the train as it arrives in the lush, tranquil region of Kumarakom, nestled along the banks of Kerala’s famous Vembanad Lake. A wholesome breakfast is served onboard, allowing you to savor a variety of regional and continental delights while taking in the serene greenery outside your window.

After breakfast, prepare for one of the most iconic Kerala experiences — a cruise through the backwaters on a luxury houseboat.

Midway through this enchanting journey, you’ll enjoy a lavish lunch onboard the houseboat, served in a serene setting surrounded by nature. The meal will showcase authentic Kerala flavours, including freshly caught seafood, local spices, and tropical fruits — all prepared with care and presented with fine hospitality.

By evening, you’ll return to the train, where your well-appointed cabin awaits. After some time to relax and freshen up, a refined dinner is served onboard, capping off your day with a blend of regional and global cuisines crafted by the train’s expert chefs.

As night falls, you can unwind and reflect on your day amid the soothing luxury of the train, preparing for the final leg of your unforgettable South Indian journey.

It’s a perfect moment to reflect on the unforgettable memories made over the past days.

By mid-morning, the train arrives at Yesvantpur Railway Station, marking the end of your Jewels of the South journey. As you bid farewell to your fellow travellers and the attentive crew, you’ll leave not just with photographs and souvenirs, but with cherished experiences, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the rich heritage and beauty of South India.
