Gopalpur

Gopalpur (AKA Gopalpur-on-Sea) is a beach resort town, located just 15 km from the city of Behrampur in Odisha. This quaint small town was a seaport, bustling with trade and commerce, in the Colonial Era.

During ancient times, Gopalpur served as an important port for the seafarers of ancient Kalinga. Even during World War –I, it was an important military port where soldiers used to embark on a journey to Burma. What was once a bustling port city before being deserted, is today, one of the best beaches on the eastern coastline of the country.

Gopalpur is known for being an offbeat destination and a place for relaxation. The casuarina groves that line up the sun-kissed beach make for an enchanting sight. The beach is mostly secluded and one of the cleanest beaches in the country.

Gopalpur is rapidly becoming one of the most sought-after beaches in the country, with more and more people becoming aware of its beauty. About 35 km from Gopalpur, is located Ramha which provides a great entry point into the famous Chilika Lake.
